Charity ChildLine 2007 Midsummer ball

One of Uptights customers, Sally-'Flame' worked for the charity ChildLine and every year a Ball is held in Aberdeen. From which all proceeds go to ChildLine. This year the theme was"Top Hats and Tiaras". Sally asked if Uptight would be interested in making something for the auction. The below black and crystal tiara, being modeled by childlines Esther Rantzen , was made as a sample for the auction, with the option of a gift certificate to have something personal made.

The winner opted for a custom made necklace, probably more wearable than a tiara for every day wear!

ChildLine is the UK's free 24-hour helpline for children in danger or distress. It provides a telephone counselling service for any child with any problem, every day of the year. Since ChildLine’s launch in 1986, ChildLines’ volunteer counsellors have given comfort and support to over 1.8 million children and young people, and given help and advice to over 100,000 adults.

Around 4,500 children and young people call ChildLine every day, but ChildLine can only answer just over half of these children due to lack of funds. Sadly this means that many unhappy children have to ring again and again before they reach the comfort and support that they so desperately need. Tragically, some children may give up calling altogether. We desperately need more funds to enable us to fullfill our ultimate aim to answer every call for help from every child who needs us. Ninety per cent of ChildLine’s income is raised each year from public and business donations, events and grant-making trusts; with only ten per cent coming from central and local government.
